Etude en laboratoire des performances du DiSCmini pour différents aérosols dans une gamme de 15 à 400 nm

In addition to chemical composition, particle concentration and size are among the key parameters for characterizing exposure to airborne nanomaterials. In parallel, strategies for assessing occupational inhalation exposure suggest the use of real-time instruments. Among the portable devices that provide airborne nanoparticle concentration and average size data with high time resolution, the DiSCmini (Matter Aerosol AG, Switzerland) has been identified as a potential candidate for personal workplace exposure assessment.
Monodisperse and polydisperse test nanoaerosols of different composition and morphology were produced in laboratory by means of the CAIMAN facility in a range of particle sizes between 15 and 400 nm and number concentrations from 700 to 840,000 cm-3. The test aerosols were used to challenge the DiSCmini, whose experimental data were compared to reference data. In spite of a slight tendency for particle size underestimation, all particle diameters, number concentrations and surface-area concentrations measured were found in the order of magnitude of reference data. Furthermore, no significant effect of particle composition or morphology was noticed.
